Women's soccer hosts Redlands Thursday in NCAA first round match

ORANGE, Calif. –  The NCAA announced Monday that the Chapman University women's soccer team has received a Pool 'B' at-large bid to the Division III Soccer Championships and will host the University of Redlands on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a first round game at Wilson Field. This is the Panthers seventh trip to the postseason, appearing six-consecutive seasons starting in 1999.

For the Panthers' first home playoff game in six years, Chapman fans are asked to wear white because it's going to be a "Whiteout" in the stands.

Chapman's last postseason appearance was in 2004 when they also hosted Redlands, losing 2-1 in the first round. The Panthers are 4-6 all-time in postseason play and 0-2 against Redlands. Chapman (12-6) closed out the regular season on a four-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 14-3 during that stretch. This will be the second matchup between these teams this season as the Panthers defeated the Bulldogs 3-2 at Wilson Field in September led by a two-goal effort from freshman F Camy Jun.

The Panthers this season are led by sophomore F Aimee Evans and freshman F Val Sobol who have scored 23 of the team's 39 goals this season. Senior M Bridget Thomson and junior F Kate Lilly have added five and four goals, respectively. Setting the table for Chapman's offense has been Lilly and sophomore M Karina Cisneros who each have four assists.

Redlands (10-9) is making its fourth NCAA appearance in school history, last appearing in 2008. The Bulldogs finished their SCIAC season 6-6 - good enough for fourth place - and snuck into the NCAA field by winning the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Bulldogs beat top-seeded Cal Lutheran in the first round of the tournament and then topped Occidental College in the finals to secure the NCAA Championships bid.

The winner of Thursday's game faces No. 15 Cal Lutheran on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
