Early goals by Emory hurt Panthers in 4-0 season-opening loss

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University women's soccer team gave up three first half goals as they dropped their season-opener 4-0 to No. 5 Emory University on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field. Emory participated in the NCAA Championships 'Elite Eight' in 2010 with a 16-2-4 mark.

For the first 20 minutes of the match Chapman (0-1) hung tight, but goals by senior M Lidija Barauskas and freshman M Sarah McClenahan three minutes apart gave Emory a quick 2-0 lead. The Eagles then got their third goal of the half against Chapman sophomore goalie Cassy Khouri in 40th minute with a shot from the left wing by freshman F Emily Feldman.

Emory (1-0) outshot Chapman 10-3 in the first half and 22-4 for the game. For all but 15 seconds of the second half, both teams were held scoreless but Emory pushed its lead to 4-0 on a rebound goal by McClenahan off a corner kick at the 89:46 mark. In the second half, Chapman junior goalie Rissa Andersen had four saves.
