Evans' first half goal gives Chapman 1-0 win over Santa Cruz

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team pulled out a 1-0 victory over U.C. Santa Cruz on Friday night at Wilson Field, ending a three game losing streak while getting their first home win of the season. The Panthers have now held the Banana Slugs scoreless in their last three matchups – all Chapman wins – dating back to last season.

Junior F Aimee Evans scored the Panthers lone goal of the night in the 24th minute as she evaded a defender on the right wing and had a one-on-one opportunity against Banana Slugs' junior GK Monica Chazen which she put in. Evans now has a team-high five goals on the season to go along with two assists for Chapman (4-5-1). Chazen did have five saves on the night.

Santa Cruz (6-3) put some pressure on offensively in the second half attempting seven of its nine shots in the game. Chapman junior GK Rissa Andersen had two saves on the night with one coming in each half.

Heading into tonight's game, Santa Cruz was coming off a 17-0 win over Mills College which was the sixth highest scoring game for a team in NCAA Division III women's soccer history.
