D3 Week Profile: Val Sobol, Women's Soccer

The accolades never seemed to stop rolling in after the 2012 women’s soccer season for junior Val Sobol, who received recognition for her work on the field and in the classroom. The Forsyth, Ill. native was just the second in Panther history to earn NSCAA All-America recognition and did so while holding a 3.84 GPA.

The offseason has been almost as busy for Chapman University’s junior M Val Sobol as the soccer season. Already named to the NSCAA Division III All-America and All-West Region teams for her performance on the field during the 2012 season, the women’s soccer star has now earned Scholar All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Early goal eliminates Chapman from soccer playoffs

The unranked Chapman University women’s soccer team hung right with No. 2-ranked Hardin-Simmons University for 90 minutes, but the Cowgirls scored the game’s only goal in the 10th minute of play and held on to defeat the Panthers 1-0 in the first round of NCAA Division III women’s soccer championships at Trinity University on Saturday.

Fresh off winning the SCIAC Tournament championship in its first year of eligibility, the Chapman University women’s soccer team had five players named to the 2012 All-SCIAC Women’s Soccer team, including four first team selections – the most in the conference.

The Chapman University women’s soccer team took the anticipation out of it with a win on Saturday, but volleyball had to sweat it out a little. In the end, both Panther teams are headed back to the NCAA Division III playoffs this weekend.

The Chapman University women’s soccer team clinched its first-ever automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs, defeating visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 4-1 in the SCIAC Tournament championship game at Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Panthers advance to SCIAC finals on penalty kicks

October 31, 2012

The soccer gods intended on Chapman University senior F Aimee Evans scoring the game winning goal all along; it just took Evans awhile to get the message. Evans scored the game-clincher in the fifth round of a penalty kick shootout to help the Panthers advance past visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 0-0 (3-2 PKs) and into the finals of the SCIAC Tournament at Wilson Field on Wednesday evening.

Women's soccer, volleyball ready for SCIAC Tournaments

The Chapman University women’s soccer team heated up at the right time and the volleyball team has been hot all year. As a result, both have earned No. 2 seeds in this week’s SCIAC Tournaments, which will determine the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA postseason tournaments.

Women's soccer upsets No. 22 Cal Lu, clinches SCIAC berth

For the Chapman University women’s soccer team it was as simple as, “Win and you’re in,” except that first-place Cal Lutheran University, ranked No. 22 in Division III and unbeaten in SCIAC, stood in the way. No matter, the Panthers handed the Regals their first conference loss of the year, 1-0 on Wednesday night, clinching their first-ever berth in the SCIAC Tournament which begins next Wednesday.

Three-goal week earns Sobol SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week

Val Sobol, a junior forward on the Chapman University women’s soccer team has been named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 15-21, during which the team went 3-0 and she scored three goals and added an assist.

Seven players score as Chapman takes down Mills 8-0

October 21, 2012

Seven different players scored at least one goal as the Chapman University women’s soccer team ran away with an 8-0 win over Mills College on Sunday morning at Wilson Field in a non-conference match. Chapman has now won seven of its last eight matches overall, four of which have been shutouts.
