Seven players score as Chapman takes down Mills 8-0

ORANGE, Calif. –  Seven different players scored at least one goal as the Chapman University women's soccer team ran away with an 8-0 win over Mills College on Sunday morning at Wilson Field in a non-conference match. Chapman has now won seven of its last eight matches overall, four of which have been shutouts. Now with 13 wins, Chapman is one win shy of equaling its highest win total since Coach Calderon took over the program in 2004, that year the team finished 14-4-2.

Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Chapman (13-5-0, 7-5-0) scored four goals to put the game out of reach for Mills. Junior F Val Sobol, sophomore M Jordan Fremmerlid, sophomore F Olivia Do and senior F Aimee Evans each had a goal during the opening 10 minutes with two of the assists coming from Do.

In the 20th minute, freshman F Baylor Hogan scored her first career goal to put Chapman up 5-0 off an assist from sophomore F Jordan Royer. Hogan's goal came off a rebound of Royer's shot which was headed off the crossbar. Five minutes before halftime, Fremmerlid scored her second goal of the match off an assist from Royer to push the lead to 6-0.

For the remainder of the first half and the first 17 minutes of the second half, Mills kept Chapman off the scoreboard until freshman M Celina Solomon scored in the 62nd minute off an assist from Sobol.

With less than three minutes remaining in the game, senior GK Rissa Andersen capped off the scoring for Chapman with her first career goal which came on an assist from senior M Karina Cisneros. Andersen, traditionally a goalie, played the last 10 minutes of the match for Chapman at forward and attempted three shots and nearly had an assist.

Andersen along with sophomore starting GK Marissa Fehrman and freshman Gabrielle Cohen combined for the shutout in net for Chapman. Although Fehrman started, Andersen and Cohen split the majority of the game in goal.

Mills' goalkeeping duo of freshman Tayla Muise and senior Shauna Corbitt combined for 10 saves with Muise coming up with eight.

Chapman's next game is on Wednesday, Oct. 24 @ 5 p.m. as the team hosts Cal Lutheran at Wilson Field.
