Three-goal week earns Sobol SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Val Sobol, a junior forward on the Chapman University women's soccer team has been named SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 15-21, during which the team went 3-0 and she scored three goals and added an assist. With wins over La Verne, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Mills, Chapman strengthened its conference postseason tournament chances as the team currently sits in third place. Chapman needs to win one of its final two SCIAC matches to guarantee a spot in the four-team SCIAC postseason tournament.

Of Sobol's three goals during the week, two of her goals against La Verne and Mills were game-winners. The Forsyth, Ill. native also had a goal against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and added an assist versus Mills.

This season Sobol is tops on the team in goals (nine), assists (five), game-winning goals (five), points (23) and starts (18) and she ranks in the top-10 in the SCIAC in nearly every offensive category.

Sobol is already the third Chapman athlete to earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors following in the footsteps of men's soccer/football player Mauricio Alfonso and football player Jeremiah McKibbins. This is the Panthers' first full season as a member of the conference.
