Kerstetter nets another game-winner in Panthers' win over CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – In a rematch of last year's dramatic SCIAC playoff match, the Chapman University women's soccer team came through with another thrilling finish, defeating the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas, 1-0 at Wilson Field on Wednesday. Freshman F Rosie Kerstetter netted her third game-winning goal of the season in the 81st minute to seal the Panthers' victory in their first SCIAC match of the season.

Fresh off her first career hat trick against Howard Payne (TX) on Sunday, Kerstetter added to her team-leading point total (11) by delivering the knockout blow on a rebound after junior C Olivia Do had her shot blocked. The goal passed Athenas GK Hannah Dunham, snapping a streak of impressive saves and near misses, including a shot off the left post by sophomore Baylor Hogan in the 70th minute.

Wednesday's victory marked the first shutout of the season for junior GK Marissa Fehrman, who made four saves in the match, including a key stop in the 87th minute off a shot by CMS F Makella Brems. The win was the second straight for the Panthers, who have not allowed a goal in over 200 minutes of play. In fact, Chapman has held its opponents scoreless in each of its four victories (4-2).

The Panthers' next three matches are on the road at Redlands, Whittier and Pomona-Pitzer. The women's team will return home on Oct. 2 to take on Occidental at 4 p.m.
