Athenas hand Panthers another loss

ORANGE, Calif. –The Chapman University women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at Wilson Field. The Panthers are now 2-4 in SCIAC and 6-5 overall.

Scoring two goals, less than ten minutes apart, the Athenas pulled away from the Panthers in the second half to give them a 3-1 victory over Chapman. Sophomore M Makella Brems had the go-ahead goal for the Athenas at 82:42 off an assist from junior M Darrah Shields.

The sophomore also had an assist early in the game to put her team ahead 1-0 in the first half when she crossed to senior F Isabell Lester at 19:54 giving Claremont-M-S an early lead.

Forced to play catch up early on, the Panthers tied it up 1-1, when Senior M Jordan Fremmerlid scored her first goal of the season off of a penalty kick with 15 seconds left in the first half.

However, the Athena's insurance goal, with less than a minute left in the game by freshman F Sydeny Smith made it difficult for the Panthers to recover in such short time.

Looking to break a threetwo-game losing streak, the Panthers will host SCIAC rival Cal Lu this Wednesday Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. on Wilson Field.
