Panthers tie Tigers 1-1 in double overtime

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team found themselves in familiar territory on Wednesday night when they headed into double overtime with Occidental College. The Panthers played the Tigers to a 1-1 draw in their second consecutive double overtime match that ended in a tie.

The Panthers were led by senior F Rebeccah Bortz who scored off a pass coming from right-wing sophomore F Kourtney Kingsmore in the 23rd minute to put Chapman in the lead 1-0 in the first half. Bortz took four shots on goal on Wednesday, six shots total and leads the team with 26 shots on the season.

The Tigers offense tied the match 1-1 less than 10 minutes into the second half when freshman M Alana Hillman dribbled up the middle to score her third goal of the season.

The Panthers defense did not allow a single shot in overtime and allowed the Tigers just seven throughout the entire match. Sophomore GK Kristin Kleinow had six saves on the night, improving her saves percentage to .830.

In early September the Panthers lost to Occidental 1-0 in double overtime and are now 1-1-2 in overtime matches for the 2014 season.

Looking to break a five-game winless streak the Panthers (6-6-2 overall, 2-5-2 SCIAC) will play their next two games on the road and then will return home Saturday Oct. 25 to host Pomona-Pitzer for their Senior Day at Wilson Field at 7 p.m.
