Sagehens spoil Panthers' 'Senior Night'

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team lost 3-0 to Pomona-Pitzer on Senior Night on Saturday at Wilson Field. The Panthers fell to 7-8-2 overall and 3-7-2 in SCIAC with Saturday's loss while the third-place Sagehens improved to 8-6-4 overall and 6-2-4 in conference.

The Sagehens struck early scoring in the 19th minute of the game to take the lead 1-0 over the Panthers. Freshman M Abby Onderwyzer Gold scored from about 8 yards out to record her sixth goal of the season.

Ten minutes into the second half Pomona then extended the lead 2-0 when senior M Amanda Coba scored off a cross from freshman M Natasha Thorton-Clark.

Senior F Rebeccah Bortz attempted to rally the Panthers two minutes later with a shot from 10 yards out but was unsuccessful, allowing junior GK Annie Wedel to record her second save of the match. The Panther offense took just three shots on goal in 90 minutes of play.

Pomona then furthered their lead 3-0 with 20 minutes of play left when sophomore M Katie Tao took a shot from 15 yards out that would hit the cross bar and rebound to freshman M Sofia Barsher who would score the Sagehens third and final goal of the game.

Chapman sophomore GK Kristin Kleinow recorded five saves while allowing three goals in her seventh loss of the season on Saturday.

Looking to break a two-game losing streak Chapman will play their last two games of the season on the road traveling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 29 and following with a trip to Cal Lutheran on Nov. 1 for their last match.
