Late goal spells trouble for Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team fell to University of Redlands 1-0 at Wilson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (4-5 overall, 1-4 SCIAC) and Bulldogs (5-1-1 overall, 4-1 SCIAC) went head-to-head for 87 minutes of aggressive play before the Bulldogs capitalized on a free-kick opportunity.

With three minutes left on the clock in the second half, Redland's freshman M Lauren Bay turned a 20-yard free-kick into a game-winning goal to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 victory.

In the first half, Chapman and the Bulldogs went head to head with the Panthers, who blasted seven shots on goal and fended off five. Freshman M Lindsay Erl led the Panthers with three shots in her first 30 minutes of the half.

Redlands out-shot the Panthers 13-9, but Chapman maintained the edge with 11 shots-on-goal in comparison to seven for the Bulldogs.

Junior GK Kristin Kleinow recorded seven saves for the Panthers but fell to 3-4 in goal with today's loss.

Chapman will travel to Claremont for its next pair of games beginning with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. followed by Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, Oct 7 at 4 p.m.
