ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting Cal Lutheran on Wednesday. Senior Kristin Kleinow made five saves in the loss for the Panthers (4-3, 1-2 SCIAC).
Cal Lutheran netted both goals in the second half after neither team found the netting in a hard-fought first half. The Panthers outshot the Regals (6-1, 2-1 SCIAC) 7-5 in the first 45 minutes but Cal Lutheran held a 7-1 shot advantage in the second half.
The first goal came just under four minutes into the second half when Sarah Tadeusiak was in perfect position on the back post to deflect in a corner kick. Bri Pinal dropped a shot under the crossbar from just outside the box to make it 2-0 in the 82nd minute.
The Panthers best opportunity came in the 73rd minute when senior Katie Bell ran on to a ball played over the top with the keeper out. Her header was swept off the line to keep clean sheet for the Regals.
Chapman heads to Occidental on Saturday as the Panthers continue their SCIAC schedule and return home to face No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer next Wednesday.
