Women's soccer outshoots Whittier but falls 1-0

ORANGE, Calif. – Despite outshooting the Poets, the Chapman University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Whittier at Wilson Field on Saturday night. Senior Katie Bell and sophomore Lindsay Erl led the Panthers (5-6-1, 2-5-1 SCIAC) with five shots each.

Chapman fired off 17 shots in the match while Whittier shot 12 times. However, the Poets were the ones to find the netting in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Francesca Escobeda took advantage of the Poets' best scoring opportunity as she fired a shot just out of the keeper's reach to record the only goal of the match.

The Panthers shot 10 times in the second half, putting four on goal, but Alexi Cruz made all four saves to get the shutout. Kristin Kleinow also made four saves in the match.

Chapman is on the road for two matches next week but returns home on Oct. 19 to take on Occidental.
