Silverglate lifts women's soccer to OT win over Oxy

ORANGE, Calif. – It took just 41 seconds into an extra period for freshman Taryn Silverglate to score the golden goal and lift the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Occidental on Wednesday. The crucial win launched Chapman into sole possession of fourth place in the SCIAC standings with just three matches left to play.

Occidental tied up the match with just over six minutes left in regulation to erase the deficit that the Tigers faced for over 70 minutes. Chapman (8-6-1, 5-5-1 SCIAC) immediately went on the attack in the extra period to grab three points in the standings.

Silverglate dribbled into the corner of the 18-yard box and launched a shot just under the crossbar to send the Panthers into a celebration. The goal was the first of Silverglate's young career.

Another freshman Faith Holloway gave the Panthers the initial lead when she headed in Katie Bell's  corner kick in the 14th minute. Oxy's Nicole Castro tied the match up when she knocked in a cross that made it all the way through the box to the far post.

Senior Kristin Kleinow made four saves in the contest to help the Panthers grab the dramatic win. With the win, Chapman moves three points ahead of Occidental in the standings and holds the tiebreaker between the two teams that tied earlier in the year.

Chapman heads to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday and returns home to take on La Verne at 4 p.m. on Oct. 26.
