Aronson's double OT goal lifts women's soccer over No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer

ORANGE, Calif. – A perfect pass was struck perfectly into the upper right corner of the goal as the Chapman University women's soccer team kept its early season win streak going with a 3-2 double overtime win over No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer. The Panthers (5-0, 1-0 SCIAC) had three different goal scorers and are 5-0 for the first time since 2012.

Chapman's five-match winning streak is also the longest since 2012 when the Panthers started the season 5-0 and ended the regular season with five wins in a row. They extended that to a seven-match unbeaten streak after winning the SCIAC Tournament.

Each of the Panthers' three goals left an imprint on the memories of the crowd at Wilson Field. Junior Lindsay Erl floated in a shot from nearly 40 yards out that seemed to fit perfectly between the crossbar and the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

Next, it was junior Shelby Brown's turn to impress. A corner kick into the box was punched out but Brown swung her leg up near the top of the box to shoot it right back into the back of the net just before halftime to give Chapman a 2-1 lead.

With the clock winding down and the draw just a few minutes away, sophomore Jordyn Bradbury played a long through ball behind the Sagehens' back line. Fellow sophomore Elly Aronson won the foot race to the ball and with one touch sent it sailing into the far corner of the netting for the golden goal.

The Panthers overcame an early goal from Abby Onderwyzer-Gold in the 19th minute to take a 2-1 lead by halftime. They held on to that lead in the second half until a bouncing ball ended up on the near post in the 83rd minute with Brianna Lau there to put it away and send the match into the extra periods.

The Sagehens held a slight 16-13 advantage on shots while their goalkeeper Isa Berrardo made six saves.

Chapman scored three goals or more for the fourth time in their first five matches of the season while they have given up just three goals. The Panthers stay home on Saturday to take on Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
