Women's soccer blanks Redlands to snap skid

ORANGE, Calif. – The fourth shutout of the year helped the Chapman University women's soccer team snap a three-match slide with a 2-0 victory over visiting Redlands. The Panthers (6-3, 2-3 SCIAC) also improved to 3-1 on their home turf.

Junior Lindsay Erl and sophomore Bailee Cochran scored for the Panthers, who controlled much of the match in their attacking half. Chapman had fired off a couple shots early on and Redlands (5-3, 2-3 SCIAC) used a couple of counter attacks to put shots on goal. Junior Maeve O'Connor turned away both attempts and the Panthers drew a foul at the top of the box just over 15 minutes in.

Erl stepped up to take the free kick and bent her shot over the top of the wall for a 1-0 Chapman lead. O'Connor came up with two more saves in the first half to give her four saves and a clean sheet heading into the locker. She made another two saves in the second half to complete her fourth shutout of the season.

While the Panthers outshot the Bulldogs 6-4 in the first half, they poured it on with 12 shots in the second half while only allowing five. Cochran scored the insurance goal with 19 minutes left in the match. A pass from Holbrook through the back line left Cochran one-on-one with keeper inside the six yard box and she finished to the near post for a 2-0 lead.

Erl now leads the team with four goals this season to go along with an assist and Cochran scored her second goal of the season.

The Panthers stay at home this week to take on Occidental on Saturday at 11 a.m.
