Farber's hat trick sends off seniors with big win

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Emmie Farber highlighted a historic offensive output with a hat trick in a 6-2 win over visiting La Verne on Senior Day. The Panthers (9-9, 5-9 SCIAC) closed out the season with its third win in the last four matches.

The Panthers' six goals scored were the most-ever in a SCIAC match in Chapman's brief history in the conference. Farber scored all three goals in the second half to record Chapman's first hat trick since Rosie Kerstetter did it in 2013 against Howard Payne. Farber was the first Panther to score a hat trick in a SCIAC match.

Farber started an explosive half with a goal just 2:05 into the second half. She was able to find her way around a defender as she drove toward the goal and finished a 1-on-1 opportunity to give Chapman a 2-0 lead in the match. She scored again just over two minutes later to make it 3-0.

On her second goal, fellow freshman Riley Pidgeon won a ball in the back and booted it over the Leopards' back line. Farber was the first to it and beat everyone to the goal, finishing another 1-on-1 with the keeper.

In the 81st minute with the Panthers up 4-2, Farber found the ball at her feet at the top of the 18-yard box. A quick shot was blocked by the defender but she gathered it back and found the netting again to complete the hat trick.

Senior Lara Jacobson got the Panthers going early with the only goal of the first half. Just two minutes into the match, Chapman earned a corner kick. Jacobson headed in junior Lindsay Erl's corner kick to highlight her Senior Day. An Erl corner was again headed in later in the match but the second time was by freshman Sophie Hinz. Jacobson found junior Emily Holbrook in the six-yard box for the Panthers' final goal.

Chapman's 25 shots in the match kept La Verne's Jasmine Valadez busy as she was forced to make nine saves. Her defenders headed off a couple of shots as well as they were holding the posts.

The Panthers and Leopards wrapped up their respective seasons as Chapman crept back up to a .500 overall record at 9-9. Nine of the Panther's 11 starters are slated to return next year.
