Women’s soccer wins with thrilling 90th-minute strike

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team is keeping fans on their toes – winning their second match in a row on a 90th-minute goal. This afternoon freshman Rory Biles gave the Panthers the 1-0 victory over Oberlin College, connecting with sophomore Emmie Farber on a breakaway with just 12 seconds left on the clock.

Chapman and the Yeowomen were scoreless going into the final minute of play. Oberlin was awarded a corner with just under a minute left, but the Panthers were able to clear it up the middle of the pitch. Just a few touches later, Farber and Biles were off to the races, with Farber finding the rookie for a one-time shot that slid past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Chapman had their fair share of chances leading up to the final minute, tallying 18 shots compared to the Yeowomen's six. The Panthers forced Oberlin freshman goalkeeper Louise Metz to make six saves, including a nasty free kick from the 20-yard line that curved around the wall from senior Lindsay Erl.

Freshman Kelsey Bland saw another 90 minutes in goal today, making three saves and keeping the Panthers in the game.

The Panthers head to Whittier College to face off against the Poets in their first SCIAC match on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7pm.
