Women’s soccer drops SCIAC home opener

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 match to the visiting University of Redlands Bulldogs (3-2-1, 2-0-1 SCIAC) earlier this evening. Despite outshooting Redlands 17-6, the Panthers (3-5, 0-3 SCIAC) could not find the back of the net.

The Bulldogs scored in the 24th minute when senior Hayley Romo found junior Alexa Glick in front of the net. Glick only needed one touch to push the ball past Panther freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Bland to notch the only goal of the match.

Bland started her eighth consecutive match, tallying two saves in the full 90 minutes of play. The back line put in the work tonight, with three of the four defenders playing the entire match. Junior Faith Holloway, sophomore Elle Uyeda and freshman Cate Combi each saw a full 90 minutes of play for the second match in a row. Senior Lindsay Erl also played 90 minutes for the second consecutive match, tallying seven shots tonight.

Chapman put eight of their 17 shots on frame, forcing junior Brittany Dinkins to make eight saves, including a knuckleball free kick that curved around the wall from senior Shelby Brown in the 72nd minute.

The Panthers return home on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4pm to host Caltech in another SCIAC matchup.
