Farber, Aronson score in women’s soccer victory

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team used a second-half surge in offense to take down the visiting Whittier College Poets 2-0 earlier this evening. The Panthers (6-8, 3-6 SCIAC) were led by sophomore Emmie Farber and junior Elly Aronson.

After nearly 74 minutes of scoreless play, Farber opened up the scoring for the Panthers. The sophomore found herself in a scrum with five defenders around her inside the Poets' 18-yard box. Farber never gave up, charging through all of them to be able to pass the ball just past the keeper into the right side netting.

The Poets (4-3-4, 3-3-3 SCIAC) were pushing hard in the last seven minutes of the match, testing Chapman's defense. The Panther back line of juniors Stephanie Fox, Faith Holloway, sophomore Elle Uyeda and freshman Cate Combi were solid, keeping the ball away from sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Ahdoot.

With just 19 seconds left to play, Aronson took control of the ball at Chapman's own 40-yard line. The junior dribbled down the field, weaving through two defenders to find herself one-on-one with freshman goalkeeper Vanessa Martinez. Aronson's shot took a favorable deflection, rolling into the back of the net to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Bland started the match for the Panthers, recording two saves in 45 minutes of play. Ahdoot tallied her first career win after playing the second half for Chapman.

The Panthers head to Redlands this week but return to Wilson Field on Friday, Oct. 10 to host UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference doubleheader.
