Bland earns second SCIAC weekly award

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore goaltender Kelsey Bland picked up a pair of SCIAC shutouts this week, earning SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week. This is Bland's second SCIAC weekly award this season.

Bland tallied four saves in the Panthers' double-overtime scoreless draw against Cal Lutheran on Wednesday before saving five shots as Chapman beat Occidental 1-0 on Saturday evening.

The San Clemente native has not allowed a goal in three matches and has posted a clean sheet in seven of the 10 matches she has played in.

Bland ranks sixth in the nation and second in the conference with a .936 save percentage. With a team goals-against average of 0.356, the Panthers rank 11th in the nation and are on pace to have the lowest average in program history.

The win on Saturday evening pushed the Panthers into third place in the conference standings with seven matches left to play. Chapman returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 9 as they head to the University of Redlands at 7pm.
