Montemor scores hat trick in 5-1 win over Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Anna Montemor is on a tear and cannot be stopped. The Panthers' leading goal scorer just added hat trick to her resume in Chapman's dominant 5-1 victory over Caltech earlier this afternoon, scoring five of her seven total goals in the last two matches.

Montemor struck fast, netting her first goal less than two minutes into the first half. The striker dribbled her way through the back line before slotting the ball past the Caltech goalkeeper to find the back of the net.

Just over 10 minutes later, Montemor struck again. Freshman Shannon Coyle played a long ball over the Beavers' back line to Montemor, who settled the ball and struck it hard to put Chapman up 2-0 in the 13th minute.

Junior Riley Pidgeon scored her fourth goal of the season just five minutes later when she received a ball from Coyle. Pidgeon was calm and collected in front of the net, easily slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to give Chapman a three-goal lead less than 20 minutes into the first half.

The first-half action didn't stop there, as Caltech responded with a goal of their own just over a minute later. A bouncing ball in Chapman's 18-yard box found the feet of junior Rachel Sun, who passed the ball across the box to freshman Catherine Kauber. Kauber hit a volley well with her right foot, catching Chapman goalkeeper Kelsey Bland off-guard to bring the Beavers back within two goals.

After nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth possession, junior Lily Moore added the Panthers' fourth goal. Senior Elly Aronson dribbled down the left flank before crossing the ball across the 18-yard box, where Moore connected with the ball and pushed it far post to put Chapman up 4-1 heading into halftime.

The Panthers came out strong after the whistle, scoring their fifth and final goal less than three minutes into the second half of play. The dynamic duo of Montemor and Coyle struck again, as Coyle found the forward for her third goal of the match and the final 5-1 lead.

Chapman maintained possession for the majority of the second half, allowing just two shots. Caltech goalkeeper Valerie Hetherington posted seven saves as the Panthers fired off 12 shots on goal. Coyle tallied three assists in the victory.

The Panthers head out on the road for their next two matches but return home on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. for Senior Night against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
