Holloway connects for lone goal in win over CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – It's only fitting that four-year starter Faith Holloway would punch in the lone goal that sent the Chapman University women's soccer team to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament with a win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The captain celebrated senior night along with four of her classmates in the crucial victory.

Holloway struck in the 66th minute to lift the Panthers to victory. Chapman earned a free kick at the 35-yard line and fellow senior Stephanie Fox stepped up to take the kick. Fox curled the ball behind the back line to an on-coming Holloway, who headed the ball into the side netting in what proved to be the only goal of the match.

The Panthers maintained possession in the attacking third, breaking down the Athenas defense while firing off 12 shots. The Chapman defense held CMS to just eight shots, three of them on frame.

Seniors Kayla Redner, Taylor Scranton, Elly Aronson, Holloway and Fox were all honored before the match for their hard work and dedication in the Panther uniform. The seniors proved to be pivotal in the postseason-clinching match, teaming up for the lone goal.

Sophomore Kelsey Bland posted Chapman's 10th shutout of the season, tallying three saves in the effort.

The Panthers clinched a spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, but will have to find out who they play when Occidental and Cal Lutheran make up a postponed match on Monday evening. No matter what, the Panthers will play on Thursday, Nov. 7.
