Women's soccer falls after late La Verne rally

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team was just two minutes from its first win of the season but fell 2-1 after a late rally from La Verne. The Leopards scored the game-winner with one second left on the clock.

Nikki Namdar put Chapman up 1-0 with the first goal of the match near the midway point of the second half. She dribbled down the sideline, cut in toward the goal and lofted a shot over the keeper's head for a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute.

The Panthers were able to turn away every Leopard push forward as Maia Mills made three saves in the second half until the final three minutes. Alyssa Moran tied the match with 2:42 left when she found the back of the net for the Leopards. Chapman had previously played to three draws in the Panthers' three SCIAC contests.

With time winding down, La Verne played one more through ball in a last ditch effort for the game winner. Moran was able to touch a pass across the box to the waiting Sarah Ramirez, who drove it into the open net with just one second on the clock.

The Leopards outshot the Panthers 13-8 and earned four corners the Chapman's one.

Chapman heads out to Cal Lutheran for its next SCIAC contest on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
