Women's tennis gives University of Rochester first loss this season

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team handed the University of Rochester (N.Y.) its first loss of the season with a 7-2 win Tuesday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The Panthers improved their overall record to 5-3, 2-3 at home.

Chapman's doubles teams swept the Yellow Jackets including a close win from the No. 1 team of junior Genna Ford and sophomore Kelley Klebenow. The duo went into extra sets and beat Rochester's Alexandra Goodman and Danielle Shreck 9-8. Senior Melissa Boyer and junior Amy Logan clinched a win in the No. 2 spot, winning 9-7.  Freshman Sophia Duong and senior Cassady Sirois rounded out the sweep with an 8-5 win, improving their doubles record to 5-1.

In singles matches, the Yellow Jacket's fought back taking five out of six matches into tiebreaking sets.  In the No. 1 spot, Duong lost in three sets to Rochester's Frances Tseng (6-1, 3-6, 2-6).  Ford, Boyer, Klebenow, and Sirois each pulled wins in the No. 2 – No. 5 spots respectively, to give the team its first win in its past three matches

The Panthers return to play Wednesday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m. against Texas-Tyler at the Chapman Tennis Courts.
