Women's tennis tops Redlands, loses to Trinity over the weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team played a pair of matches over the weekend, losing to Trinity (Conn.) on Friday before coming back to defeat Redlands on Saturday afternoon at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Club. Chapman has won three of its last five matches and is the 28th ranked squad in Division III, No. 4 in the West Region.

Trinity 6, Chapman 3
Chapman (7-5) swept its doubles matches against Trinity but struggled in singles play, losing all six matches. The No. 2 doubles team of senior Melissa Boyer and junior Amy Logan won its match easily, 8-3, while Chapman's other two doubles matches were much closer.

Juniors Genna Ford and Danielle Kaiden won 9-7 while Chapman's third doubles team of freshman Sophia Duong and senior Cassady Sirois defeated Trinity 9-8. Duong and Sirois are a team-best 7-3 this year in doubles.

In singles, Chapman lost each of its matches in two sets, with the exception of Logan who took Elizabeth Gerber to three sets before losing 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

Chapman 5, Redlands 4
In a closer match on Saturday, Chapman rebounded to win three of the singles matches with Kaiden, Boyer and sophomore Kelley Klebenow all earning victories. All three won their matches in two sets, as Boyer had the most dominant victory winning 6-1, 6-1 over Redlands No. 3 singles player, Ceara Sumida.

Doubles play was once again a strength for the Panthers as they took two-of-three matches, with wins in the top two doubles matches. Boyer and Logan won their second match in as many days with a win over Sumida and Julia Pollak. With the weekend wins, Boyer and Logan are now 7-7 on the season in doubles play.
