Singles earn sweep as Chapman tops UC Santa Cruz

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team won their second match in a row, defeating UC Santa Cruz 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The Panthers are now 8-5, improving their home record to 6-5.

The Panthers swept the singles matches, despite freshman Sophia Duong and junior Danielle Kaiden playing tiebreaking sets in the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Junior Genna Ford improved her record to 9-6 overall, and 5-1 in the No. 3 spot with a win over freshman Courtney Lymburner. Senior Melissa Boyer maintained her undefeated singles record in the No. 4 spot, improving it to 6-0 and 9-5 overall. Senior Cassady Sirois and sophomore Kelley Klebenow also earned wins for Chapman, in the Nos. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.

The doubles duo of Boyer and junior Amy Logan, earned the first win for Chapman in the No. 2 spot, defeating senior Sarah Malone and Lymburner 8-2. Duong and Sirois also won 8-1 in the No. 3 spot. UC Santa Cruz (2-9) had their only win of the match in the No. 1 spot when sophomore Alexandra Scotten and junior Laura Wade beat Chapman duo, Kaiden and Klebenow, 8-4. 

Chapman will not play again until Sunday, April 15 at 2 p.m. against Pomona-Pitzer at the Anaheim Hills Tennis Club.
