Hammer and Fox earn berths in Division III Championships

ORANGE – Chapman University sophomore tennis player Andrea Hammer has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis singles championships, while she and junior Rachel Fox have also earned a berth in the doubles championships. The tournaments will take place at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges May 22-24.

Hammer is ranked No. 11 in the West Region according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls after posting a 12-13 record in singles play this season. Hammer's record is a bit misleading, playing No. 1 singles in what is arguably one of the toughest conferences (SCIAC) in the country and navigating her way to a 5-7 record against regionally-ranked opponents in 2014.

On the contrary, the duo of Hammer and Fox has handled its competition with relative ease through the doubles circuit with an overall record of 19-5 and No. 4 ranking in the West. The pair went 8-3 in SCIAC play and have a 3-4 record against regionally-ranked foes. Their 19 wins are the second-most for a doubles team in Chapman history.

The Panthers are making their NCAA Championships debuts, becoming the first players to earn berths since 2011 when Liz Lewis '11 (singles/doubles) and Kelley Fox '11 (doubles) reached the tournament. The tournament pairings will be announced on May 21.
