NCAA draws released as tennis championships begin Thursday

CLAREMONT – The draws have been set and Chapman University women's tennis players Andrea Hammer and Rachel Fox are ready for the NCAA Division III Championships, which begin on Thursday at the Bizantz Family Tennis Center hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

Hammer earned her first career berth in the singles championships and will be up first on Thursday in the Round of 32. The sophomore drew Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) junior Angela Pratt in the first round scheduled to start at approximately 10:30 a.m. Hammer is ranked No. 11 in the West Region with an overall mark of 12-13 while Pratt comes in with a 12-10 overall record and ranked No. 5 in the Atlantic South. The winner will come back and play on Thursday afternoon in the Round of 16.

Doubles play will begin around 4 p.m. on Thursday with Hammer and Fox putting their 19-5 record on the line against Patricia Kirkland and Sonja Meighan from Washington & Lee University (Va.), who are 18-5 overall. Hammer and Fox enter the Round of 16 ranked No. 4 in the West Region versus Kirkland and Meighan who rank No. 5 in the Atlantic South.

Both Panthers are making their NCAA Championships debuts, becoming the first players to earn berths since 2011 when Liz Lewis '11 (singles/doubles) and Kelley Fox '11 (doubles) reached the tournament.
