Chapman duo eliminated in NCAA quarterfinals

CLAREMONT – Having advanced beyond any women's duo in Chapman University history, doubles partners Andrea Hammer and Rachel Fox saw their NCAA Division III championships run come to an end at the Bizantz Family Tennis Center on Friday evening. The Panthers lost in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to Amherst College (Mass.) in the quarterfinals of the national championship tournament.

Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin of Amherst – the defending national champions and No. 2 seed in the tournament – made short work of the Panthers, in a match that lasted a little more than an hour.

Hammer and Fox scored the first game of the second set before Lady Jeffs rattled off six in a row to clinch the win and advance to the semifinals. The Chapman duo fell to 20-6 overall this season. They became just the second women's duo in school history to win 20 or more matches in a season and the first-ever to advance to the quarterfinals.
