Women's tennis pair earns All-America honors

ORANGE – Chapman University women's tennis players Rachel Fox and Andrea Hammer have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III All-America team for the 2014 season after reaching the NCAA national championship quarterfinals last month. It is the first career All-America award for each woman.

Fox and Hammer made Chapman history this season, becoming the first female duo to advance to the final eight in the national championship tournament. The duo finished 20-6 overall, ranked ninth in Division III and fourth in the West Region. They were eliminated by the eventual back-to-back national champions from Amherst College (Mass.).

Just a sophomore, Hammer was also a national championship qualifier in singles, earning a top-50 ranking at season's end and No. 11 in the West. She ranked second for the Panthers in singles wins with 12, including five wins against regionally-ranked opponents.

Fox, a junior, and Hammer currently have the highest career winning percentage in Chapman doubles history (.769) and they become the first Panther teammates to earn All-America honors since Liz Lewis '11 and Kelley Fox '11 in 2010.
