The Panthers started out on the right foot, with Saunders teaming up with senior Andrea Hammer in the No. 1 doubles spot to defeat Shelby Harris and Kait Brogan 8-5. However the Panthers lost the next two doubles matches 8-2 and 8-0.

Saunders continued to be a bright spot for Chapman in singles play securing the only singles win for the Panthers. The junior defeated Caroline Mosberg in the three sets from the No. 2 spot. Saunders won the first set 6-2, then fell in the second set 1-6, but won the final set 10-3.
