Ross earns SCIAC weekly recognition

ORANGE, Calif. - Freshman Madison Ross was selected as the SCIAC Athlete of the Week after she led the women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Biola last Thursday afternoon. The rookie won both of her matches on the day, starting out with an 8-3 doubles victory in the No. 3 match. Ross moved on to the singles, where she defeated Madison Swaney from Biola in a come-from-behind 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) match.

Teammate and fellow freshman Anna Kaplan had tied up the two teams at four apiece in the middle of Ross's third and final set, meaning whoever won the singles match would secure the team victory. After coming from behind in the tie-breaker of the third set, Ross scored the last two points to take her second victory of the day and give the women's tennis team a win on its opening day of the 2018 season.

The Panthers face off against Bates College on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at Lastinger Tennis Center.
