Women’s tennis drops close match to Mary Washington

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team put up a strong fight but dropped its match against Mary Washington 5-4 this afternoon. Freshman Anna Kaplan notched victories in both her doubles and singles matches to lead the Panthers.

Kaplan was partnered with fellow freshman Madison Ross on the No. 3 court for their doubles match. The duo took an 8-7 (7-2) victory over Mary Washington's No. 3 team. Kaplan then went on to win her singles match 6-0, 6-4 over Eagles' sophomore Addie Hinton.

Kaplan and Ross were the only pair to earn victories in the doubles matches, as the team of freshmen Isabella Oedekerk and Alisa Ogranovich lost 8-2 on the No. 1 court and freshman Vasilisa Trofimova and junior Nicole Fouts lost 8-5 on court No. 2.

Oedekerk bounced back from the loss, beating her singles opponent 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. After dropping the first set 6-2 on the No. 2 court, Ross rallied back in the second set to tie it at 5-5, but Mary Washington sophomore Rachel Summers took the match 7-5. Ogranovich took her doubles match on court No. 3 with a swift 6-4, 6-3 victory over Eagles' senior Caroline Mosberg. Both Trofimova and Fouts dropped their doubles matches, as Trofimova lost 6-3, 6-1 on court No. 4 and Fouts lost 6-2, 6-3 on the No. 5 court.

Chapman is right back out on the court tomorrow afternoon to host Christopher Newport at 1 p.m. at Lastinger Tennis Center.
