Trofimova completes comeback win over nationally-ranked Vassar

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Vasilisa Trofimova won a three-setter to complete the upset comeback win over nationally-ranked Vassar College on Saturday. The Panthers (3-6) won for the second match in a row.

The Brewers took the 2-1 advantage after the doubles portion of the match but the Panthers came back to win on courts one, two, four and five in single to claim the team victory. Trofimova's win at No. 5 singles was the only match to need a third set as she came away with the 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win to clinch it.

Freshman Alisa Ogranovich claimed the singles win at the top of the lineup in the No. 1 singles match to move to 7-2 on the year. After beginning the year in the No. 3 slot in the lineup, she has played at No. 1 for the last two matches and came away with a pair of wins. She breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 win. Fellow freshman Isabella Oederkerk won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 match and freshman Jordan Craft won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 as part of the comeback win.

Chapman claimed a doubles point in the top match a Oederkerk and Craft put away their counterparts from Vassar 8-3.

After winning 9-0 over Lake Forest yesterday, the Panthers have surpassed last year's win total already and matched the total from 2016. Chapman's March-long homestand continues next Saturday when the Panthers host Whittier at 10 a.m. in a SCIAC match.
