Women’s tennis earns second consecutive shutout

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team earned its second consecutive shutout and fifth consecutive victory with a 9-0 win over George Fox earlier this afternoon. The Panthers were led in both the doubles and singles matches by six rookies.

The Panthers went up 3-0 early after winning all three of their doubles matches. Doubles partners Isabella Oedekerk and Jordan Craft won their match 8-2 on court No. 1, followed by Alisa Ogranovich and Vasilisa Trofimova winning 8-5 on court No. 2. Madison Ross and Anna Kaplan were the last pair to finish on court No. 3, beating their opponents 8-3.

Ogranovich took to court No. 1 for her singles match, winning her fourth consecutive match since moving to the top court with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over her opponent. Oedekerk put a couple of goose eggs up on the board with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on the No. 2 court while Ross won a swift 6-1, 6-1 match on court No. 3.

Craft took down her opponent 6-2, 6-0 on the No. 4 court, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Kaplan on the No. 6 court. Trofimova was the last to finish, taking her opponent to a second-set tie-breaker after winning the first set 6-2. The rookie won the second set 7-6 (7-5) to make Chapman an even 6-6 on the season.

The Panthers are off to their best start in years, already winning more matches this season than they did in 2016 and 2017 combined. Chapman heads right back out to the courts at Lastinger Tennis Center tomorrow, March 29 at 1 p.m. to face Whitworth in a non-conference men's and women's doubleheader.
