Ogranovich reaches singles championship match at Ojai Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – Members of the Chapman women's tennis team competed in the Ojai Tournament last week. Freshman Alisa Ogranovich led the Panthers and made her way to the final match, winning three matches along the way.

The rookie who made her way up to the No. 1 spot in the Chapman lineup started off the tournament with a first-round bye. At the No. 3 seed, she beat her first opponent 6-0, 6-4 to move on to the quarterfinals. Ogranovich then blew past her next opponent 6-1, 6-1 to reach the semifinal match. With just four women left standing, she won her third match of the tournament 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to move on to the championship. Ogranovich faced the No. 1 seed but lost 1-6, 1-6 in the championship match.

Freshmen Madison Ross, Vasilisa Trofimova and Anna Kaplan also competed in the four-day tournament. Ross won her first match 6-1, 6-2 to move on to the round of 16 but lost 7-6 (3), 6-1 to the No. 8 seed. Trofimova and Kaplan both lost their first matches but moved on to the consolation round where Trofimova beat her opponent 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 to move on to the consolation semifinals. The rookie lost 6-1, 6-3 to her opponent who went on to win the consolation bracket.

Ogranovich and Trofimova competed in the doubles competition but lost their first match 4-6, 6-1, 12-10. Ross and Kaplan did the same, dropping their first match 6-0, 7-5.

The Panthers head to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament this weekend for the first time in three years as they look to extend their season.
