Women's tennis shutout by Idaho St.

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team fell 9-0 to their Division 1 opponent Idaho State University on Saturday. Despite a disappointing defeat, the Panthers put up a tough fight in their first match of the season.

Sophomore doubles partners Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Ross came close to victory in the No. 1 court, narrowly falling 8-5. Sophomore Vasilisa Trofimova and senior Nicole Fouts battled and ultimately lost 8-3 in the No. 2 court, and sophomore duo Anna Kaplan and Naomi Lee also lost their match, with a score of 8-1.

In singles, Ogranovich fell 6-1, 6-0 in court No. 1. Ross, in court No. 2, fought hard against her opponent Louise-Mare Botes of Idaho State, but lost 6-2, 6-2.

Trofimova had the closest singles match of the night, fiercely trailing her opponent Melissa Coburn until the end of the second set. Despite a valiant effort, she fell to Coburn 6-4, 6-5.

Fouts and Sophomore Delara Fotovatjah lost to their opponents in courts No. 5 and No. 6, scoring 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively. Kaplan fell 6-0, 6-0 on court No. 4.

Looking ahead, next weekend the women's team will travel up to UC Santa Cruz to face Trinity University and Whitman College, and play in the UCSC Tournament.
