Women’s tennis narrowly falls to Vassar

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team narrowly fell 5-4 to the visiting Vassar College Brewers earlier this afternoon. Sophomore Madison Ross led the push, taking victories in both her doubles and singles matches.

Ross, along with partner and fellow sophomore Alisa Ogranovich won 8-4 on the No. 1 doubles court. Sophomores Anna Kaplan and Naomi Lee fell 8-3 on the second court, but sophomore Vasilisa Trofimova and junior Nicole Fouts claimed a victory on the No. 3 court to put the Panthers up 2-1 heading into the singles matches.

Ogranovich fell 4-6, 1-6 on the top court for the Panthers. Ross dropped her first set 4-6 but fought back to take the next two sets and earn the 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory on court No. 2. The Panthers dropped courts No. 4, 5 and 6 to take fall behind 5-3. Kaplan earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory on the sixth and final court, but it was not enough to give Chapman the win.

The Panthers take a week off but return to Lastinger Tennis Center on Monday, March 25 to host Middlebury at 1 p.m.
