Women's tennis open SCIAC play with win over Whittier

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team opened up its SCIAC schedule with an 8-1 win over Whittier. Senior Nicole Fouts and sophomore Vasilisa Trofimova improved to 6-3 as a duo on the season.

The Panthers swept through the doubles portion of the match with Fouts and Trofimova cruising to an 8-3 win. Sophomore pair Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Ross won 8-5 in the No. 1 match while sophomores Anna Kaplan and Delara Fotovatjah won 8-7 at No. 2.

Kaplan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 6 singles match while Ogranovich won 6-2, 6-2 on court one to improve to 5-4 on the year. Ross and Trofimova won in straight sets as well as the Panthers ran away with the team win. Fouts took her match in a super tiebreaker after dropping the first set for a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win.

The Panthers head to CMS on Friday as they continue the SCIAC schedule but return home on Saturday at 10 a.m. to take on Pomona-Pitzer.
