Chapman youth on display at Caltech meet

PASADENA, Calif. – The Chapman University women's track team opened its season Saturday with several strong finishes at the Caltech All Comers event. Sophomore Peyton Collins captured a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.06 as the school record holder picked up where she left off last season.

Collins also placed third in the 100 meters with a 13.69 mark, followed by a fourth-place finish by senior Anne Portwood, who was just .09 behind her.

The Panthers were among a small handful of Division III schools participating in the event, including host Caltech, Whittier College and the University of La Verne.

Freshman Ema Solarova had an impressive debut, placing second in the long jump with a leap measuring 31 feet, 4 inches, and third in the triple jump at 13 feet, 9.5 inches.

Portwood teamed with freshmen Solarova, Paola Pratt, and Rose Fruci, for a third-place finish in the 4X100-meter relay with a time of 55.38.

Senior distance runner Kirsten Moore ran a personal best in the 3000 meters with a time of 12:34.32.

The Panthers' next meet will be the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers in Claremont this Saturday, Feb. 19.
