Five-week layoff has no ill effect on women's track

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Despite a nearly five-week layoff between competitions, the Chapman University women's track and field team delivered a handful of standout performances and personal records at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday. The Panthers were led by freshman Ema Solarova who set three personal records, as well as sophomore Peyton Collins eying another hurdles record.

Chapman's last meet was at the Claremont Rossi Relays on Feb. 26.

It was the rookie import Solarova (from Czech Republic) who had the biggest day for Chapman, earning a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 29.88 and placing third in her heat. The freshman later set PRs in both the long jump and the triple jump. Her long jump distance of 4.51 meters was 0.06 better than her previous best at Claremont in February. She also measured 9.55 in the triple jump.

Meanwhile, Collins already holds Chapman's school record in the 400-meter hurdles and moved to within a second of the 100-meter hurdle record of 16.38, set in 1985. Collins set a personal record in the event with a time of 17.50 to place 34th overall and second in her heat.

Freshman Natalya Subbotina set personal records in the 100 meters with a time of 14.87 and the long jump, placing just behind Solarova with a  distance of 4.45 meters.
