24-year old record falls as Belanger sets new 800 meter mark

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – It was another record-breaking day for Chapman University senior long sprinter Wendy Belanger who set a new school record in the 800 meters at the Soka University Peace Invite on Saturday. Belanger placed fourth in her heat with a time of 2:27.05, breaking 24-year old record of 2:27.20 set in 1987 by Son's Williams.

Belanger has now penned her name in the Chapman record books three times, setting the school mark in the 400 meters in 2009 and as the anchor on the Panthers' sprint medley record setting team earlier this season.

Another senior, distance runner Kirsten Moore, ran a career-best time of 5:36.22 in the 1,500 meters for Chapman.

Freshman jumper Ema Solarova continued to improve as she has with each meet in her rookie year. She measured 4.63 meters in the long jump to place second in her flight, and then 10.02 meters in the triple jump – both personal records.

Freshman sprinters Rose Fruci (13.80 in 100 meters) and Paola Pratt (1:05.69 in 400 meters) also set personal best times. Meanwhile, sophomore hurdler Peyton Collins captured first place in her heat of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.91 and then second place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.42.
