Small cats, big jungle: Panthers hang tough at Triton Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Chapman University women's track and field team held its own against the likes of Division I and II athletes from Long Beach State, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Arizona at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational on Saturday. Despite being the only Division III school competing at the event, the Panthers received a handful of notable performances.

Sophomore Peyton Collins placed first and second in her heats of the 400- and 100-meter hurdles, respectively. She placed 26th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.46, a little more than a second slower than her school record time she set last season. Collins then placed 25th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.21 as she continues to close in on the 26-year old school record of 16.38.

Additionally, senior Wendy Belanger had a strong showing in the 800-meters with a finishing time of 2:35.42.

Freshman Ema Solarova came just short of her personal best in the triple jump set last week, measuring 9.97 meters in the event.

The Panthers close the track and field season at the UCI Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine on Sunday.
