Belanger earns Capital One Academic All-District honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University track and field standout Wendy Belanger has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII women's track & field/cross country team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior was named to the second team after breaking two school records this spring.

It is the first time Belanger has been named to the Academic All-District VIII team and she becomes the first track/cross country runner at Chapman (men or women) since 2003 to receive the honor.

Belanger finished her career at Chapman with three school records under her belt. In 2011, she ran the anchor on the Panthers' sprint medley team that broke a 26-year old Chapman record when they completed two 200-meters, a 400-meter and 800-meter in 4:40.41 at the Claremont Rossi Relays in February. She then set a new mark in the 800-meters with a time of 2:27.05 at the Soka Peace Invite in April. She already owned the 400-meter record which she set in 2009.

The senior finished her career with a 3.82 grade-point average in creative writing.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of the District VIII College Division, which includes Division II, III, and NAIA schools throughout the Western United States.
