Four jumps, one record: Hardwick leaps into Chapman history

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Freshman Darcy Hardwick broke a 15-year old Chapman record in the long jump with a final jump measuring 5.19 meters at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers event on Saturday afternoon in Claremont. The previous record was held by Natalie Neat with a jump of 5.02 meters in 1996.

Not only did Hardwick break the record with her final jump, she did so with her first jump of the day measuring 5.06 meters. She followed that with three more record-breaking jumps each a little longer than the last one and raising the bar every time, finally reaching 5.19 meters.

In fact, no other competitor even reached 5 meters as Hardwick placed first overall in the long jump event.

Hardwick was also the Panthers' top runner in the 100 meters with a time of 13.39, first in her heat and eighth place overall. Just behind her and third in their heat was junior Peyton Collins with a time of 14.02 in the 100 meters.

Collins  and freshman Chanelle Astrof put together solid showings in separate hurdle events, as well. Collins finished the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:15.79, while Astrof ran the 100 meter hurdles in 18.76.
