Distance runners provide highlights in Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – Chapman University's distance runners continued improve as its women's track team competed in one of the largest track and field meets of the season at the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.

Panthers' junior Kayla Heath and freshman Nicole Jourdain each set personal records in both the 800 meters and the 1500 meters and freshman Lisa Peterkin also set a career-best in winning the fifth heat in the 800 meters with a time of 2:35.22.

Heath (2:38.82), Jourdain (2:43.18) and freshman Launa Kressin (2:41.31) finished behind Peterkin in the 800 meters – all with career-bests. Meanwhile, Heath led the way for the Panthers in the 1500 meters with a career-low time of 5:32.64. Jourdain (5:40.37) and freshman Megan Brenton (5:54.37) also set personal bests.

Chapman's 4x100 meter relay team – freshman Darcy Hardwick and Jasmyn Domingues, sophomore Rose Fruci and junior Peyton Collins – showed improvement over their previous two races with a time of 54.86 although it was a half-second shy of its season best.

Freshman Chanelle Astrof placed second in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.94 and Fruci was the Panthers' top finisher in the 100 meters with a time of 13.81.

The meet featured over 2,000 athletes from dozens of schools, including some of the top Division I and II, NAIA and junior college programs in Southern California.
