Freshmen impress in track season opener

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women's track and field team opened its season on Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers Meet in Claremont. The Panthers saw promising results from a team filled with young talent as they enter their first season in the SCIAC.

Freshman Lauren Deats competed well in her first collegiate meet, finishing seventh overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.07 seconds and ninth in the 200-meter with a mark of 27.54 seconds. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native bested last year's top mark in each race set by Rose Fruci. Fellow freshman Jaemi Mansfield ran with Deats in the 100 and 200, posting times of 14.02 seconds and 29.31 seconds, respectively.

In the 4x100 relay, the foursome of Jasmyn Domingues, Jaemi Mansfield, Nicole Brait and Lauren Deats posted a time of 53.17 seconds, finishing less than a half-second shy of last season's top mark of 52.75 seconds. The foursome comprised of all underclassmen is sure to challenge that mark as the season progresses.

Senior Ema Solarova and sophomore Mia Montanile placed ninth and 10th respectively in the triple jump. Solarova measured a jump of 9.47 meters while Montanile earned a distance of 9.42 meters. The two also competed in the long jump, tying for 19th place with a distance of 4.36 meters.

Freshman Charlie Truax had a strong showing in her first meet, placing tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.57 meters and running anchor in the 4x400 relay that finished with a time of 4:35.41.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday at the Claremont Rossi Relays at 10 a.m.
