Deats becomes fastest women in Chapman history

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Chapman University freshman sprinter Lauren Deats dashed into the school record books on Saturday afternoon, becoming the fastest Panther ever in the 100 meters with a time of 12.80 and a second-place finish at the SCIAC Multi-Dual meet at the Strehle Track on the campus of Pomona College.

The rookie sprinter broke an 11-year old record previously held by Laura Henry who ran the 100 meters in 12.85 during the 2002 season. It was just the third career collegiate meet for Deats.

Fellow freshman Baylor Hogan was Chapman's fastest in the 200 and 400 meters on Saturday with times of 27.12 (fourth place) and 1:01.44 (sixth place).

Chapman's 4x100 meter relay consisting of Deats, Hogan, freshman Jaemi Mansfield and sophomore Jasmyn Domingues also shaved nearly two seconds off their previous season best with a mark of 51.57 and a third-place finish in their heat.

Junior Ema Solarova finished in seventh place in the women's triple jump with a measure of 9.97, shy of her career-best of 10.29 set at Occidental in 2012.
