Track & Field has final tune up before championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Tuning up one final time before the SCIAC Track & Field Championships at the end of the month, the Chapman University women's track team competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday to some measured improvements.

Freshman sprinter Baylor Hogan came within .24 seconds of a Chapman record in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 1:01.01 and 37th place in the event – at a meet which included many Division I, II and NAIA programs. Hogan's school record time to beat at the conference meet will be 1:00.77, set last year by Darcy Hardwick.

Freshman sprinter Lauren Deats was once again solid in the 100- and 200-meters with times of 12.86 and 26.14, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman Jaemi Mansfield set a personal-best in the 200 meters with a finish of 28.17 to place second among five Panthers in the event.

Chapman's distance runners continued to improve with career-bests for four of them: Lisa Peterkin (1500m – 5:16.24), Kayla Heath (800m – 2:35.06), Nicole Jourdain (800m – 2:39.16) and Shannon Denney (800m – 2:41.86).

Freshman hurdler Sierra Riemer also had her best showing of the year in the 100-meter hurdles with a team-best 18.09 finish in the event, edging teammate Peyton Collins by .03 seconds.

Chapman will travel to Moorpark College on April 26-27, the site of the SCIAC Championships. The Panthers are currently tied for seventh in the conference standings.
